Dear Barb,

I am writing this letter at the request of my father, Ben Williams (Carmichael's Crew). He is functionally blind so I have the great honor of reading the newsletter to him. Roger Caputo's 5th Installment of Dream Time in Issue 33 brought him many a chuckle. He recalled hearing the tale of the sudsy bombing of Adelaide. It was legendary among the Fenton crews.

My father has asked me to send the attached photo. We know the names of most of Carmichael's crew. Maybe someone could help identify the other member of the crew.

Thanks again for all you do.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Honeycutt, for Benjamin Williams

Carmichael's Crew:

Front Row: Benjamin H Williams, Arthur J Gregory, Walter S George, Charles H Smith, William H Stokes, Unidentified
(Best recollection he was the ground crew chief, First name is possibly Bill).

Back Row: John R Davis, John B Hagler, James H Johnston, Charles C. Carmichael

Missing from Picture: Richard Carozzo - died in jeep accident; Kingdon R Lott - legs crushed in same accident, sent stateside;
Eugene Hutchens - flew with crew while Williams was recuperating from shrapnel injuries.

If anyone can help with the names of the unidentified man in this photo, please let Barb Gotham know so she can contact Cheryl & Ben.

Dear Sir/Madam: First of all, this is a outstanding site! Thank you for providing it to the public! I am researching the service of Marvin R. Kern who was a navigator on Richard Locke's crew in the 528th BS. Do you have a list of missions that this crew would have flown? It appears that the crew was assigned late in the war on 13 Jul 1945. I would appreciate any information that you can provide.

Sincerely,

Erick E. Eastes (Carmel, IN)

Barb,

Thank you sending to me the information on Locke's crew and for sending the 380th newsletter. Other than the information found on the website, would you have any more information on Marvin Kern (528th)? I would like to find out where he came from prior to his assignment with the 380th. Thanks for all of your help!

Erick

If anyone has info on Marvin Kern (528th), please contact Erick!

Dear Ms. Gotham and Friends of the 380TH BG,

My name is Jeff Kunz. I am the son of Robert H. Kunz.

My father was bombardier on-board the 'Juarez Whistle,' as part of Capt. Dennis crew, out of Fenton strip, Australia.

My father retired as a Major from the USAF in the early '60's.

He went on to work in aerospace and with defense contractors, including having worked on the Gemini and Apollo missions.

My dad retired from the Federal Aviation Administration in the Eighties. He lived with my mother "Peggy" in Hudson, Massachusetts. The family home has been sold and my mother now resides in a retirement community in Hudson.

"Bob" died September 15, 1999, and is buried at St. Michael Cemetery, Cox Street, Hudson, Massachusetts. Would you be so kind as to include his name in the TAPS listing? His wife Peggy, my mother survives, along with his two children, myself and a daughter.

If there are any surviving members of the Dennis Crew or members of the 530TH/380TH BG, please feel free to give them my email address.

I would like very much to correspond with them.

Thank you for your attention and help.

Respectfully,

Jeff Kunz

I am so happy to have just discovered the 380th website. My dad (William K Couch, 529th) was a member and he talks all the time of it. He is 83 and has such a memory!!! He was just yesterday asking to look up some guys and I had visited this website once before so I looked it up again today. I will be getting his app in the mail in few days.

Editor's Note: William K. Couch, served in both the 529th and 531st Squadrons. He was Flight Engineer on the Manley, Craig Crayfish, and Deaton Crews. He flew on TENN SQUIRREL HUNTER, SUNSHINE, and JEZEBELLE

Subject: Frank Aiello

Hi Barbara,

My name is Joseph F. Sahid and I am the youngest grandson of Frank J. Aiello, who I believe served in the 380th Bomber Group during the Second World War. I know that he served in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Okinawa.

My grandfather's full name was Frank Joseph Aiello. He was born in Hoboken, New Jersey.

My grandfather's war buddy, Mr. Nick Nusdeu, personally told me that my grandfather was in the 380th.

I believe that he served as a tail gunner.

I am not sure what crew he may have flown with. This is basically all I know.

Do you know if there is any way I can confirm this? I'm trying to located men who may have known him during the war.

Thanks!

- Joseph F. Sahid

Editor's Note: Our history records as compiled by Ted Williams do not show a Frank J. Aiello with the 380th - if anyone has any info on his service, please let me know! Thanks, Barb Gotham

Mrs. Gotham:

For several years I have belonged to AWON (American War Orphans Network) and was in Washington, D.C. for the WW II Memorial dedication. I did not know until I returned home that the veterans met in various places and I had missed a golden opportunity.

The AWON convention is in Tucson, AZ, on November 7-11. Today, as I was looking at your wonderful information on the 380th Bomb Group Association, I was shocked to see that the reunion will also be in Tucson, AZ, on November 5-9. WHAT A COINCIDENCE OR IS IT?

I hope to be able to attend. How wonderful it would be to participate in this even for a short time. My husband and I lived in Tucson twice when he was stationed there with the Air Force. (He is a 20 year veteran.)

My father was SSgt Wilson E. Page who was on the plane THE RED ASS piloted by Lt. David Lippincott. They left Fenton, Australia on Sept 11, 1943. (They did not return.)

In 2006 I received the book The Flying Circus by Jim Wright. You have probably read that. There is more information in that on my father's plane/

Thank you for all the work you have done for the Association and I am sorry that I have not contacted you before.

Sincerely,

Wilma Page Lanier
